Beavers’ reward: 200 In-N-Out burgers

Friday, September 28, 2012by  Jon Osterberg

Head coach Mike Riley knew how to motivate his Oregon State football team for its Sept. 22 game against UCLA in Pasadena. Sure enough, the Beavers upset the Bruins 27-20. Riley’s recipe for success: he promised all of his players a post-game trip to In-N-Out, the popular California burger chain, if they won.

Following the game, Riley directed the four team buses to an In-N-Out in Burbank, where in a mere 15 minutes they ordered and collected 200 double-double burgers and 100 orders of fries. It cost Riley $700, a bargain for getting his team to 2-0. Read Bud Withers’ Seattle Times column.
