Campus burgers in demand after 60+ years

Friday, March 7, 2014by  Jon Osterberg

If you attended college at Central, or if you've driven through Ellensburg while road tripping, you likely know the iconic burger joint: Campus U-Tote-Em.
More than 60 years after its inception, the eatery next to Central Washington University continues to draw loyal patrons of all ages, warranting attention from the Ellensburg Daily Record.
Owner Rick Williams says he likes to hire college freshman, because once they’re trained they can fill orders and flip burgers for four years.
Daily Record readers were asked to share their U-Tote-Em memories. My favorite: a former employee said when she’d ask a husband if he wanted “ketchup, tartar, or both?” the wife would answer. The wife who hadn’t ordered fries.
