Drive-ins dying in E. Washington, too

Friday, April 26, 2013by  Jon Osterberg

On April 5, this blog lamented the end of the last drive-in theater in the urban Seattle area.
Now, the last drive-in in all of Eastern Washington is entering its final season. After 60 years of operation, Colville’s Auto-Vue Drive-In will close for good this fall.
For you stay-at-home westsiders unfamiliar with state geography, Colville lies 71 miles north of Spokane. Take I-90 or U.S. 2 and turn north on U.S. 395.
The Auto-Vue is another venue perishing, in part, because of the costs to upgrade from film to digital projection. The movie industry is phasing out film, and switching to modern equipment would cost the Auto-Vue well over $100,000. So its owner will grow hops on the property instead. Read the KXLY.com story.
