Our Northwest

Happy Solstice!

Tuesday, June 21, 2011by  WALLY Team

Fremont Fair is an annual celebration of the summer solstice that draws a diverse and loyal crowd. All walks of life are welcome at this summertime event and many of PEMCO's Northwest profiles could be spotted throughout the crowd, including a plethora of Utility Kilters, Socks and Sandals Guys and of course, the Fremont 60s Holdouts everywhere you turned. Many activities were hosted over the two day event, which ensured a good time was had by all.

We were happy to see our friends, the Utility Kilters and Sandals and Socks Guys, well represented at the fair.

Saturday's somewhat crumby weather did not deter the loyal "Fremonsters," as all were in attendance for the infamous Solstice parade. The naked cyclists were not put off by the dreary day either; they donned their paint and rode proudly down 36th Avenue. Great music followed on all stages throughout the day and a wonderful aroma from the varied food vendors filled the air. The official end of the day came at 8:00 p.m., but the party showed no signs of stopping.

PEMCO made quite the impact with fair-goers, who enjoyed stopping by for a closer look at the NW Profiles and prizes around the booth.

Sunday morning brought much more pleasant weather for the final day of the festival. Planet Earth Yoga Center provided a morning yoga class, attended by about 20 participants. After their sun salutations, the stage was cleared and replaced by a salmon grill-off put on by PCC Natural Markets, which drew-in hungry spectators and filled the air with delicious aromas. The next event of the day was a dog parade which was particularly well attended. The start of the parade began on the corner of 35th and 1st Avenue providing dog owners with the opportunity to stop by the PEMCO van and pick up some doggy bags and bones, which made for some very happy pooches.

One of the many happy pooches, receiving a treat from the PEMCO booth!

The entire Fremont Fair was a great time and provided many memories for all who attended. The "Fremonsters" put on a wonderful gathering and we're already looking forward to next year. And as was the motto of the weekend, Happy Solstice!
