Texting teen hits pedestrian in Arlington

Tuesday, September 9, 2014by  Jon Osterberg

A 16-year-old driver described as “very nice” and “dedicated to school” hit a pedestrian in Arlington Sept. 6 while texting behind the wheel.
The driver’s side mirror struck the pedestrian, who suffered a broken hand plus hip and arm injuries, but luckily was knocked onto grass rather than pavement.
The teen driver pulled over and ran up to check on the injured woman.
“I was texting,” she said. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”
The driver’s neighbor said the girl feels horrible about the accident. She’ll likely feel worse if authorities fine her and suspend her license. Texting while driving is illegal in Washington, and the penalty is more harsh on new teen drivers. Read the story.
