That’s where home inventory and home management apps can help.

What are home inventory apps?

Home inventory apps are digital tools that help you:

  • Keep track of what you own

  • Stay on top of home maintenance

  • Store important details about your home in one place

Instead of scrambling to remember what you had after a fire, storm, or water loss, these tools give you a place to document belongings, projects, and updates before something happens.

After a loss, one of the hardest parts of recovery is rebuilding the details:

  • What did you own?

  • When did you buy it?

  • What had you upgraded or replaced?

A home inventory can:

  • Make the claims process less stressful

  • Help you recover more quickly

  • Reduce the time spent trying to remember what was lost

Just as importantly, many of today’s tools focus on prevention, not just recovery.

How these tools can help before and after a loss

Based on tools PEMCO explored as part of our prevention work, home apps can help you:

  • Prepare
Get reminders for maintenance tasks that reduce the risk of common losses, like water damage or electrical issues.

  • Organize
Keep a digital record of belongings, upgrades, and repairs — all in one place.

  • Respond faster
Access your information quickly if you need it after an unexpected event.

  • Build better habits
Turn prevention into a routine with tools to help you track your progress.

Why does this matter?

As part of our prevention efforts, PEMCO explored and tested several home inventory and home management tools to better understand how they can support homeowners before and after a loss. We did this to inform the types of resources we share — and to help our members feel more prepared, organized, and confident.

What tools did we explore?

As part of our prevention efforts, PEMCO explored tools like vipHomeLink, which offers:

  • A digital home inventory and home log

  • Personalized maintenance reminders

  • A “Home Fitness Index” that helps homeowners track preparedness

  • Weather and outage alerts

  • Quick, no‑cost setup during the pilot

PEMCO also explored HomeZada, which offers:

  • A digital home inventory and home log

  • Personalized maintenance reminders

  • Weather and outage alerts

  • Design inspiration

There are also other inventory tools available, including options offered by consumer and industry organizations. The right tool is the one that fits your home and your comfort level. We encourage you to do some research if you’re curious and consider a home app to maximize visibility into what you own and how your home changes over time. It will come in handy when you need it.

Prevention today. Peace of mind tomorrow.

At PEMCO, we believe preventing the preventable is just as important as being there when something goes wrong. Tools like home inventory apps are one more way to help you stay in control, no matter what comes your way.

You don’t need to do everything at once. Even starting with one room or one simple checklist is a step toward protecting what matters most to you.
