PEMCO and Cal Raleigh team up to support the Northwest 

In the Northwest, we show up for each other. It’s part of what makes this region home—whether we’re cheering through spring rain, helping our neighbors, or rallying around the causes that matter. That’s why we’re excited to announce a new partnership with Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh, rooted in a shared belief that we can achieve more when we work together as one team. 

Why we are partnering with Cal 

At its core, this partnership is about community impact. PEMCO and Cal share the same priorities: showing up with purpose, lifting others, and making a positive and meaningful difference across the Northwest. By teaming up, we can do more, for more, in innovative and sustainable ways.  

Cal reflects many of the values that matter most in the Northwest: preparation, accountability, and putting the team first.  He leads with purpose on the field and brings that same mindset to supporting communities off the field. 

In teaming up with Cal, we are starting with a common goal, to support and empower our communities, but that’s just the beginning. 

“Get Caught Reading with Cal!” 

We’re kicking things off with a cause that has the power to change the trajectory of a child’s life: literacy. 

Education has always been in PEMCO’s DNA. We were founded by a Seattle teacher more than 75 years ago, and from the beginning, our mission has been shaped by the belief that strong communities start in classrooms. Supporting schools, empowering educators, and helping students thrive has remained a cornerstone of our community impact efforts ever since. 

That’s why “Get Caught Reading” is such a natural starting point for our partnership with Cal Raleigh. Reading builds confidence, strengthens academic skills, and opens pathways to future success. It’s one of the simplest and most meaningful ways we can help young learners grow—and one of the most important ways we can honor our educator‑founded roots. 

On January 26, Cal Raleigh joined Team PEMCO in surprising students at a local elementary school with a special reading event filled with stories, excitement, and encouragement. Moments like these remind us why supporting kids and teachers' matters so deeply. Every child deserves the chance to imagine, explore, and dream big—and literacy is a foundation for all of it. 

And now, we’re inviting the rest of the Northwest to join in. Beginning in March, families across the region can submit photos of their K-12 kids getting caught reading for a chance to win special prizes. Whether it’s a book before bed, a chapter while at the ballpark, or pages turned on a rainy afternoon—every moment caught reading may be photo worthy and count.
