Check traffic volumes to plan your turkey trip

Wednesday, November 25, 2015by  Jon Osterberg

If you’re crossing the Cascades for Thanksgiving via the region’s busiest route, I-90, you can chart the expected traffic flow thanks to WSDOT.
This link shows expected traffic volumes, both eastbound and westbound, for the next five days.
Motorists should encounter the worst congestion today, eastbound, between 1 p.m. – 5 p.m., exceeded only by Sunday’s westbound traffic between 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. On Saturday westbound traffic should be pretty stiff too between 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Those traveling Washington’s other main highways can get up-to-the-minute travel times on this WSDOT webpage.
If you're traveling in Oregon, check out the TripCheck webpage that shows Oregon road conditions for motorists statewide.
I’ve been surprised to find construction crews still working on the I-90 expansion project east of Snoqualmie Pass so late this fall. WSDOT confirms that bridge and structure work will continue until severe weather forces a stop, likely between now and January 1 based on typical weather.
Here’s wishing you safe travels this week!
