Our Northwest

Congrats to Principals on the Pitch winner Seth Adams!

Gentlemen, start your … hamster balls! OK, so the race didn’t really start that way. But Seth Adams of Issaquah Middle School, first to cross the finish line in Saturday’s Principals on the Pitch hamster-ball obstacle course race, probably couldn’t have been happier had he claimed a Formula One championship.

“This was easily one of the most memorable experiences of my life!” said Seth. “I’m a huge soccer fan, so being out there on the same field the Sounders play on was one aspect of it. But more importantly, being there as a representative of Issaquah Middle School and having the students and my family there in support was amazing. It was a wonderful experience for us to share together.”

Seth and another standout Northwest principal, Rick Harwood of Global Connections (Tyee) High School in SeaTac, squared off during halftime at the Seattle Sounders FC/LA Galaxy match as part of a PEMCO-Sounders FC celebration of National Principals Month. As the winner, Seth pocketed $2,000 for his school, and Rick took home $1,000. Both also received 25 tickets to the game so students could cheer them on, and each school will score an appearance by a Seattle Sounders FC player.

Seth and Rick were among dozens of nominees vying for a chance to compete. The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association called on educators and students statewide to nominate the “best of the best” middle- and high-school principals for the contest, and they responded with these A+ principals:

At PEMCO, we feel a deep connection to schools and the everyday heroes who make them great. In 1949, we were founded by a teacher who wanted to give school employees a break on their car insurance (and we still do).

Congratulations and thanks to Seth, Rick, and all the principals across the Northwest who help make this a great place to live, work, play, and learn.
