Sounders vs. Philadelphia Union: MLS First Kick 2010

Saturday, March 27, 2010by  WALLY Team

If you ever find yourself caught under soggy-gray skies as a giant rave-green 'Sound Wave' washes you down the street, don't worry. You're in Sounders territory on match day, and you're in for a memorable ride!

On Thursday Brad, Steven and I donned our wet weather gear and headed over to Qwest Field for the first match of the Sounders 2010 MLS season. We were there along with a record setting 36,000 fans to cheer on the Sounders as they took on the Philadelphia Union in the league opener. Braving both the wind and rain, fans were rewarded with a 2-0 shutout victory for the home team. Not all the day's action was on the field, though.

Meet Chris, Steve, Luke and Jeremy, or as they called themselves, the 'Mustache Mafia.' Coming up all the way up from Olympia, these fans revealed to us the inspiration for their fuzzy flare.

'A month ago we were at a cocktail party with our wives and girlfriends and they all showed up wearing these ridiculous stick-on mustaches. So, the four of us got together and decided there was no way we could be outdone,' said Chris.

Take a look at our favorite mustache-wearing Sounders fans of the day:

Nice work boys, those mustaches are looking sharp! If we didn't get a chance to meet you on Thursday, don't worry, we'll be back on Saturday, April 3 as the Sounders take on the Red Bulls. Until then, keep those scarves up Sounders fans!
